On the other hand the secondary characters hardly get a chance on. Earthquake Bird feels like a step back from that muddling a potential thread on how women are often pitted against each other.

Earthquake Bird at times abandons the central murder mystery for something else entirely as it wanders through unrelated and uninteresting side stories. It has a wonderful core cast and does offer som truly fascinating moments. In the rare moments when Earthquake Bird trembles with purpose everything about it becomes easier to appreciate eg.
